Race Committee

Scituate PHRF is looking for an individual to head up the race committee for the 2012 racing season. We sail on Wednesday nights from late May until late August. In September we switch to Sunday afternoons. If Fall Sundays are not an option we would still like to hear from you. Race Committee crew will be provided weekly to assist.

Candidates should have boating experience and preferably sailing / racing experience. Training will be provided.

Boston Sailing Center- Summer 2012

The Boston Sailing Center is currently seeking sailing instructors for the upcoming 2012 season starting April 30th. Sailing instructors are needed for beginning and advanced keel boat sailing courses. The position includes teaching classroom and on-the-water courses to adult students. Part-time, full-time and weekend positions are available.

Candidates should be reliable, motivated and possess good presentation skills. Advanced knowledge of keelboat sailing, including spinnaker handling and navigation, is required. Certification (ASA, US Sailing, USCG), CPR and first aid is a plus.

Sailing Director

Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club

Full time position, as the Sailing Director (“SD”) at Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club. The SD will manage our sailing activities and interface with the club's team racing, one design fleets, junior programs, ladies sailing, phrf racers, dinghy sailors, cruising class, adult sailing and race committee.
We’re looking to hire a positive, energetic, team player who will work closely with the Fleet Captain (“FC”) of each of these respective groups to encourage increased participation, advance their skills on the water and continue to expand our national and international sailing footprint. The SD will work virtually all weekends in the sailing season and have responsibilities for managing the maintenance of club owned boats in conjunction with our full-service boatyard. In exchange for the hi-energy summer schedule, the position will allow for 8 weeks of paid leave in the winter/off-season.
Seawanhaka is one of the oldest sailing clubs in the US. Located on Centre Island in Oyster Bay, NY, the club has an illustrious sailing history dating back to 1871. Today Seawanhaka continues to run a growing first rate junior program and an internationally competitive team racing platform. The club's team racing and adult sailing programs are supported by a fleet of 12 club-owned Sonar class keelboats, in addition to the member owned One Design and PHRF boats.
The successful candidate will have a solid sailing resume, with experience ranging from Junior Dinghies to OD to ORC or equivalent, at the national level. In addition, we would expect the SD to demonstrate a strong sense of character, leadership and enthusiasm, as well as, excellent communication and technology skills.

Nyack Boat Club Junior Sailing

Summer 2012 Coaching Opportunities

Nyack Boat Club Junior Sailing, now entering it's 43rd season, presently has openings for 2 sailing coaches in our 420 and Opti divisions. Our training syllabus follows the guidelines of the JSA/LIS, as well as USSA and the USODA. We have two, four-week sessions, running from late June to mid August, with about 30 student sailors in each session.

Sailing Program Director

The position is part-time year round, full time mid June through August.  Corinthian Yacht Club provides a fun and competitive junior sailing program for its sailors age 7 and up. The program has approximately 110 sailors and includes instruction in Optimists, Lasers and Sonars. Candidate must be a self-motivated, enthusiastic professional with excellent communication and teaching skills.

The Sailing Program Director will manage and coordinate program registration off season, schedule and supervise the daily activities of 8 Instructors and Jr. Instructors on and off the water during the season. The Sailing Director must have the ability to create and implement a structured curriculum with seasonal and weekly goals as well as help instructors develop daily lesson plans while maintaining a fun and safe teaching environment.  Must have previous sailing and coaching experience, Collegiate sailing experience a plus. Must have US Sailing level 1 certification as well as First Aid and CPR by the start of the 2012 program. Housing may be provided. Competitive pay based on experience.

 Expected time requirements for the position vary seasonally. September through January requires approximately 5 hours per week (offsite) answering e-mail, communicating with staff and planning for the next season. February through May requires 10+ hours per week (offsite) setting up the class schedule, mailing applications, handling registration, e-mailing parents, and establishing the seasonal staff. Mid June through August the position is full time Monday - Friday onsite at the Corinthian.

Sailing Director

A club with a rich 130 year history of one design and blue water sailing, is looking for a Sailing Director to oversee the operation of all aspects of sailing. 
This is a year round position and involves a high degree of contact with both the adult and junior membership.  It is essential that the Sailing Director be genuinely interested in motivating members of all ages to sail to the best of their abilities.

Responsibilities:
Organize and run adult sailing programs as follows:  

  • Championship events ( IHYC is hosting Ideal 18 North Americans in 2012);
  • Focus on Sailing Program, Ideal 18 program with over 100 participants in related events; commissioning, maintaining and decommissioning Ideal 18 fleet  (8 boats);
  • Adult sailing instruction (group and private);

  • Working with junior sailing program ½ day per week in the summer;
