The US Coast Guard wants to create 34
live-fire zones in the Great Lakes which
will be permanent, live-fire shooting zones for
training on 7.62mm cutter-mounted machine guns
that fire 650 rounds a minute at more than 4,000
yards. Isn't that just wonderful?
As if this mismanaged, misplaced and failed "war
on terror"
from the Bush regime isn't quite ridiculous enough,
Rear Admiral John Crowley Jr, commander of the
Coast Guard District for the Great Lakes, said "The
Coast Guard has looked at an increased terrorist
threat since 2001." I don't know when or
if something might happen on the Great Lakes,
but I don't want to learn the hard way."
So another knucklehead trots out the hollow "terrorist
threat" cliché so that a bunch of
coasties, who have no real business firing machine
guns in the first place, can target practice
in the Great Lakes? Jesus Christ, let's hope
there is some sanity there somewhere...Comments?
