Sports Car

We currently have Sportscar out of the water at Sandringham YC doing some more mods and while there we have observed the highly professional team from the new DK46 "Hollywood Boulevarde" putting their new ride together. This one is for Ray "Hollywood" Roberts who previously campaigned a Farr 52 of the same name. These guys are real keen... they stepped their carbon rig in a 30 knot westerly (beam on to the boat on its narrow base shipping cradle) The crane driver had to change his underwear a couple of times when the stronger gusts came through. At about $AUS1.3M for one of these babies, you sure wouldn't want to drop the rig onto the boat or have the whole shebang tip sideways in the wind!

They have spent a lot of time fairing their keel and getting everything just right. Their first campaign is Skandia Geelong Week which rus from 21-26 January and we should expect big things from this boat and crew as she goes up against the other DK46 DeKadence which is fresh from a top ten (acrss the line!) finish in the '04 Sydney Hobart demolition derby.

Skandia Geelong Week should be a huge regatta with some way cool machines making their way to the event. The high attrition rate in the Hobart has knocked out the Maxis but we will see such yachts as Sean Langmans Open 66 AAPT, two RP46s, two DK46s, and the giant killing RP31 Cone of Silence in the huge fleet. My liver is trembling in anticipation.... bring it on!!
