The Knickerbocker Cup

Matched Up

Today was a rough sailing day. The breeze started out pretty fair - about 6 - 10 out of the North - but after a couple hours, it slowly began to drop and shift. The bay looked more like a mine field than a sailing course.

Things went pretty well for us, though, and we finished 4 and 2. We got off to a good start with two wins, including a horizon job against the Danish team. We then lost two in a row, each time because of bad starts on my part. Each time I seemed to underestimate just how light it was. For our last two races, the breeze dropped dramatically - sometimes we probably had no more than 1 knot. Each time we got off to a good start, and I have to say that Dave Hochart an Mike Brown really got us around the course masterfully. We didn't do much match racing today, as most of our attention was focused on working our way through the mine field of breeze (or lack thereof), and Dave and Mike were right on all day.

So, we're currently in a tie for 3rd, and we're pretty sure we need to finish this round robin in the top 4. The schedule calls for a quarter final round, but with the tropical storm just south, the forecast doesn't look good. We're expecting gale force winds Friday night and Saturday.

More to come tomorrow. For results and info on the event (probably pictures, as well), see here.

Best,
