Team USA 1734

Summer Update

Hello from San Diego,

It’s been a full, yet enjoyable summer for us. Mikee recently returned from England where he was the 420 coach for team USA at the Volvo Youth World Championships. Dave has been logging in some hours on the East Coast where he competed in the Farr 40 North Americans, as well as raced Mumm 30s and Melges 24s. Perhaps most importantly, both of us were able to spend some much-needed time at home with family. It’s been a good summer to recharge our batteries before heading into another busy month of 470 racing.

On August 13th we fly to Beijing then Qingdao, China for the Olympic Test Event. The Aug 18-31 regatta is essentially a complete dry-run of the Olympic Regatta. 468 sailors will represent 42 nations in 11 classes. Needless to say, the event will be a spectacular introduction of the 2008 Olympic venue. Here is the regatta website..

After the Test Event, we head down the coast to Rizhao for the 470 World Championships – also on the Yellow Sea. The event begins on the 4th of September and concludes on the 13th. It too is promising to be a well-attended championship. Online information can be found here.

Last, but not least…we’ve made it to the Top-10 in the ISAF World Rankings! Check out www.sailing.org for more details.
