Team RAF: First Sea Trials

Team RAF was out on the lake last weekend trying out our craft for the first time. With March 3rd approaching fast, we are working hard to get sailing rigs on the boats and get them out on the water with some wind. See more progress on our blog at www.sailnaway.blogspot.com. If you have ever considered doing a small boat adventure race, then the Everglades Challenge is for you!

Currently working out of a storage unit in Raleigh, NC (which was donated to the cause) we have been able to make significant progress and are starting to work on deck hardware and rigging. We still have to finish the rudder system and install the seats and cockpit comings but the sails are mostly done and we hope to be sailing by this weekend. The Everglades Challenge awaits us, as does the looming lunar eclipse that will occur on the night of the start of the race. We hope this will be a sign of good things to come.

About us:
We are Team RAF, the "Rise and Fall of Western Civilization," all current students at North Carolina State University. Mike, Matt and I (Alan) are aerospace engineering majors and Chris is majoring in architecture. We are on a mission to compete as economically as possibly. Designing parts from scrap and borrowing when we can has gotten us this far, thanks to all the friends of Team RAF.

Hey, what are you doing over spring break? If your answer is not "sailing" then what is wrong with you? Progress is being documented on our website, check it out.
