With the Mission Bay Yacht Club hosting the upcoming 505 Pacific Coast Championships May 23-25, I wanted to inform you and perhaps your readers of a small and obscure class magazine with some extraordinary content. After reading Sailing Anarchy each day for over a year now, it's apparent to me that your readers like to be on the cutting edge of performance, albeit mostly in high-performance keelboats (we won't hold that against you ; ). It's also clear that the editorial staff at SA prefers a non-conventional look at the sport. Therefore, I thought you might be interested in taking a peek at Tank Talk, the Magazine of the 505 Class American Section. Yes, the 505 is an "old" design and we are considered by most to be a fringe group of sailing zealots, but we're still the biggest and best high-performance dinghy class in the world and the competition is just awesome. We had well over 100 entries at our world championship in Australia this year, hitting triple digits for the fourth time in five years. We also have a real spinnaker now after a rules change allowing larger dimensions. But I digress. While most of our content is provincial and 505 specific, some of it has broader appeal and crossover application to other classes - even those with an inordinate amount of lead ballast. Some articles of interest might include: Check out the latest issue. Winter
2000 - Interview with Howard Hamlin & Mike Martin (505 and 18' Skiff
World Champions) You
can download any of these for free here: Although
our numbers were a bit disappointing at this year's North American Championship
(31), the caliber of the competition was the best in decades. The top
10 positions included sailors with numerous World and National Championships
to their credit, a few Olympians (including Gold Medallist Carl Buchan),
and a few former College Sailors of the Year. So
check us out and as The Ed says, Enjoy! Aaron
