This
is the new Farr TP 52 Beau Geste under sail for the first time.
Yes, the rig is tipped way forward, and yes it is meant to be that
way. The boat is set up to win Transpac, and as such things like
the foils are paper thin and the rig is set up like this to be
more
effective downwind. When the boat goes into buoy mode, they will put
on new foils along with a corresponding rig and also make unspecified
interior adjustments. I believe the ante in the TP 52 class has just
been seriously raised. One of course cannot fault the owner for not
only choosing Farr, but also for doing everything to make the boat
as fast as possible for the venues. But if the boat performs as expected,
this big money program cannot be good for the health of the class,
can it? If a guy discovers that spending $1.5 million is not nearly
enough, I can see a lot of unhappy owners. Thoughts anyone?
