These
shots are of the new Alchemy, a 77' Andrews turbo sled being built
at Dencho Marine in Cali. Alan tells us that he is very impressed
with the way Choate is building the boat, and we believe him.
This is a fairly important boat for Andrews and he's going to
want it done right. It is supposed to be ready for the Newport
to Ensenada race which is April 25, then taken apart and shipped
to the Great Lakes. They are not doing Transpac for what they
feel is a political deck that is stacked against them. We'll try
to find out what that really means.
However,
it will be interesting to see how this Quantum inventoried Andrews'
design goes against the R/P boats. But at 77', it sort of stands
alone as most, if not all, of the new big sleds are designed to
the MaxZ 86' rule. As strange as it seems, we understand that
berth length limitations in their home port of Santa Barbara,
at least in part, prohibited them from building an 86'
