Set Up?

Here are some shots, courtesy of Bill Johnson, of the R/P turbo sleds Pyewacket and Pegasus after the start of the in-progress Transpac. In this sequence, Pye apparently ground down and passed Peg in the light air, and looking at the difference in headsails, it is little wonder. Clearly Peg has non-overlapping headsails and Pye has genoas. What is interesting is why Pye would choose genoas for a downwind race, as surely there is a trade off for downwind sail area? Did Peg do a better job configuring their sailplan for the race? If anybody can shed some insight, please do.

BTW, Peg is currently putting the wood to Pye in what is shaping up to be a very light air affair. http://www.transpacificyc.org/
