Don't Do Us Like That

In a late, double secret proposal to the ISAF, Mr. Paul Henderson wants a new regulation that says all ISAF continental and World events must have a "qualified ISAF appointed PRO". Maybe for Olympic classes, but WTF, all ISAF classes? I don't think that the Fireballs or the 505's need or want the expense and aggravation of an ISAF appointed PRO for their Worlds, or Europeans, or the North Americans.

In the case of the I14's, we have been running our own affairs for 75 years with little or no involvement from the ISAF. In the 14s case, the local fleet that volunteers to do the worlds is responsible for everything, including the race management. The I14 World Association sets some general guidelines and the local fleet puts it together. If they need help it is a local / world I14 decision, why bring the ISAF into it? And the ISAF appointing a PRO for the NAs? Come on. We've had excellent NAs at the Gorge with just Kerry Poe as the only member of the RC there.

It is costly enough to get the ISAF required international judges in from overseas, Judges that have not had to see one single protest in our last two Worlds, but now to have to pay for an "appointed" PRO is over the top. Our next worlds will be in Auckland and the one after that will be in ABYC in Long Beach. In my opinion Auckland knows what they are doing and ABYC is completely qualified to host an I14 worlds. The added expense and aggravation of having an unknown (and where would we find one) world I14 PRO is a waist of our and the ISAF's time and money. Not to mention the insult to the fine people at ABYC who have run the I14 Worlds, NAs and Nationals before and done a fine job at that as well. Not certain that SDYC in SD or Richmond YC and St.FYC in SF would take kindly to the ISAF telling them they don't know what they are doing.

We have been trying to keep costs down to keep participation up, we have a target entry fee for the world events, this proposal does not help. If a class wants to have an ISAF appointed PRO, fine, let them ask for one, but if a class sees no need for one, don't force us against our will.
