The
New Mark Mills TRX 950 Okay, so it's not 2,500 pounds, with a 40' carbon sprit. But given the design parameters, we think it looks very nice. It has concessions to the IRC rule, which is fairly active in places like Australia, and also happens to be where the boat will be built. Of course the first thing that pops into one's mind is Mumm 30. But according to Mark "Its really quite a different boat from the Mumm - which has no offshore capacity and is very dinghy like. This is more stable, and has a minimal interior, sufficient to weekend in. If you want a boat to sit in rather than on, then this is the one. Both the UK and Australia still have a large group who like taking this size boat offshore or coastal, so a bit like the Olson 30 did, it gives you a bit of both worlds." At a projected cost of $85,000 US, it has the promise of some momentum. Plus the builder is Sportboatz P/L, an established Australian production builder responsible for the construction of some of the T Boat range of sportsboat designs for the international market. Really, there's not much to not like with this thing. Is there a market in the US? Perhaps not, but if you were looking for a modern, well-built versatile 30', you'd have to give this a good look. Besides, we're down with Mark - he's from Cali. www.mills-design.com |
